Welcome to DHS's Health Science Pathway website. Please consider donating to help students succeed in the healthcare field!
At Durango High School we have a pathway that includes courses for student to take that are interested in a healthcare career. There are courses for each student to take all 4 years of high school.
Level 1: Introduction to Healthcare Careers
Level 2: Medical Terminology
Level 3: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
Level 4: Capstone / Internship
At DHS, we have a classroom that mimics a hospital & clinic for students to learn and master hands on skill required for the medical profession. We call this space the Demon Medical Lab. Check out the video below to see the Demon Medical Lab!
The Health Science Pathway at Durango High School has advanced state-of-the-art technology and equipment that allows our students to have hands-on experiences and training for the medical field. During 2024, the pathway acquired 3 Patient Simulators (left). Students have access to equipment comparative to a collegiate level program that allows for a diverse spectrum of training and learning opportunities.
This pathway was started by Kyle Montgomery in 2018 with the vision of having courses for student to take to increase their interest in the healthcare field. Covid delayed the growth of the pathway but since moving to teaching the pathway fulltime and the major support from Dr. Karen Cheser, Dylan Connel, Jamie Yarborogh, Dr. Jon Hoerl, Kricket Lewis and Bailey Noonan the CTSO/Pathway has grown exponentially in 2023 & 2024 school years. A huge debt of gratitude and thankfulness goes out to everyone that was involved in making this massive leap in the correct direction.
